The tree lighting is pretty short and the See Ya Real Soon is a modified version of a normal (also short) goodbye. There are trees in the lobby of each restaurant and scattered in a few other spots, but not much. A few wreaths and scattered pieces of garland, but nothing (that I can recall) that was even illuminated outside the atrium. 2023 Very Merrytime cruises are available to book now via the Disney Cruise Line website. Lauderdale, the Disney Magic will offer Halloween cruises of three to five nights to tropical destinations in The Bahamas and Caribbean. From Port Canaveral, Florida, the Disney Wish will sail three- and four-night Bahamian voyages full of frightful fun in fall 2024.
Is a Disney Christmas Cruise Worth It?
Encourage guests to done their holiday finery and get dressed up in yuletide attire. These are not unrealistic expectations–Disney Cruise Line does all of these things well on other cruises, so it’s perplexing that they drop the ball with Christmas. Speaking of the Disney characters, they are one of the few Christmas bright spots.

Castaway Cay – Guide to Disney’s Private Island
Today, Disney Cruise Line announced magical enhancements planned for the upcoming Very MerryTime sailings. Disney Cruise Line’s most wonderful time of the year will be even more joyful this holiday season with new festivities for the whole family aboard Very MerryTime cruises. With two brand-new entertainment experiences, Disney characters dressed in jolly new looks and celebratory activities for the whole family, Disney Cruise Line will be filled with the spirit of the holidays this year. First things first, it’s helpful to know what Very Merrytime Cruises actually are.
Mickey’s Tree Lighting Magic Ceremony
The new cruise terminal is perfectly themed to the Disney and Pixar’s film, “Finding Nemo.” Favorite friends from the film are displayed on colorful murals. The more than 104,000-square foot terminal was reimagined by Walt Disney Imagineering exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests to provide a seamless embarkation experience. It’s also a time to charge any electronics you want to use for the cruise, and for us, that now includes the new DisneyBand+. DisneyBand+ is just like MagicBand+ (used at Walt Disney World and Disneyland) and is designed to make your cruise vacation easier. We recommend fully charging the bands the night before your cruise so that you’ll have a full battery for your first day! We’ll be charging it every night so we can use all the features throughout the cruise.
New Character Looks Coming to Castaway Cay
If driving to the port, give yourself time to drop off luggage (see #4) and park. If you’re taking a shuttle or other type of transportation, you probably want to arrive about minutes before your scheduled arrival time so that you have extra breathing room if there are any delays. Santa Claus Meet-and-Greet The holidays just wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa Clause. Guests get the chance to interact and get pictures taken with the Christmas icon. Mickey’s Tree Lighting Magic Ceremony – Children are invited to help light the Christmas Tree aboard the ship during a festive gala. We’d personally go a step further and replace the tired and underwhelming Pirate Night offerings with something holiday-centric.
During the cruise, there will be many holiday-themed events to look forward to, from tree lightings to holiday parties. Personal Navigators, and other details from the Very MerryTime 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral. The Disney Wish set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida on November 10, 2023. There are additional Personal Navigators from other sailings of this same itinerary for comparison. Disney Cruise Line doesn’t just go all-out on the Christmas decoration on the ship, they decorate their private island too! As you disembark in Castaway Cay, you’ll notice a giant Christmas tree, snow flurries, wreaths, and snowmen.

These special itineraries are part of Disney Cruise Line’s themed cruises, and they include holiday activities during the entire sailing. Castaway Cay – Disney Cruise Line’s private island is decked for the holidays with a tropical flair. An icon Christmas tree, holiday island music, garland, and even snow flurries greet guests arriving to the island. There will also be holiday cruises from Galveston aboard the Disney Magic, which will range in length from four to six nights. The Disney Dream will set sail from a new South Florida home in Fort Lauderdale, offering four- and five-night Very Merrytime cruises to tropical locales in the western Caribbean and Bahamas. This high-energy deck party thrown by Mickey and Minnie will feature favorite Disney friends as they celebrate friendship, love, and family with a fresh mix of classic and original holiday songs.

You’ll just need to add your information to the tags, so a Sharpie or a pen will be needed. They will get the chance to decorate stockings, create festive cards, embark on a holiday scavenger hunt and more. Storytime with Mrs. Claus – Children are invited to gather in the atrium to hear Mrs. Claus read Christmas stories by the tree. Teens and tweens can party it up with new friends during music and dance extravaganzas that they are sure to enjoy. Three shows might sound like a decent amount, but that would be really overselling each.
The first thing you’ll do when you arrive at the terminal is drop off your luggage at the curb. If you’re driving, you’ll be directed to a place to pull over, and you’ll hand your luggage to a porter. If you’ve arrived by a motorcoach transfer, you’ll be directed to where you will hand over your luggage. You’ll want to make sure the luggage tags Disney provided are on your bags so they can be delivered to your stateroom. However, if you’ve forgotten your cruise luggage tags, there will be some blank ones at the curb.
This special holiday gathering featuring Broadway-style entertainment (per Disney–we’d say that’s overselling it), classic holiday tunes, Mickey & friends, and snow in the atrium. Disney Cruise Line will set sail from a new South Florida home in Fort Lauderdale, offering four- and five-night Very Merrytime cruises aboard the Disney Dream to tropical locales in the western Caribbean and Bahamas. Also from Florida, the Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy will continue sailing from Port Canaveral to The Bahamas and Caribbean. With cruises from Florida and California, adults and children alike will discover the wonder of the holidays aboard Very Merrytime sailings in 2023.
When the ships stop at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, the celebration continues with a decked-out Christmas tree, Disney character meet-and-greets, and holiday island music. Plus, the island's tram is decorated to resemble a reindeer, complete with antlers and a tail. Families sailing during the holiday season from late November to New Year's Eve are treated to ships decked out from stem to stern with traditional Thanksgiving fanfare, Christmas festivities, and snow flurries. Beginning as early as the first week of November and extending to Christmas Day, Disney Cruise Line embraces "the most magical time of the year" with themed holiday sailings known as Very Merrytime Cruises. Port Everglades offers everything under the sun, from Caribbean cruises to world voyages to fast ferry getaways — all from the vacation paradise of Greater Fort Lauderdale.
Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic – When you walk onto your Disney Cruise Line ship on day one, the Christmas tree and garland lights aren’t yet on. This is because there’s a show featuring Disney characters, Christmas music, crew members, and more in this tree-lighting ceremony that makes these festive lights twinkle. Meanwhile, the Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy will continue sailing during the holidays from Port Canaveral to The Bahamas and Caribbean. There’s nothing like the holidays with Disney, and that’s true for the cruises, as well. The atrium may additionally host a surprise snow flurry as previously summoned by none other than Queen Elsa from “Frozen,” gathered among all her other Disney friends and cast.
